STAGE DOOR by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman
During the Depression, the Footlights Club in the west Fifties provides an affordable respite and community for the bevy of struggling stage actresses who reside there. They are an amusing and varied lot!
Barbecue by Robert O’Hara
Barbecue centers on around the O’Mallery’s, a dysfunctional group of siblings who comes together for a park barbeque in order to stage an emergency intervention for their sister Barbara, whose drug habit has gotten out of hand. However, there are in fact two O’Mallery families, one white and one black. Each appears in different, yet similar scenes that juxtapose to create a dialogue about racial and family politics.
Elmwood’s Cold Reading series occurs once a month on Saturday’s at 11:00 am in the Tarson Studio at Elmwood Playhouse and is curated by member, Tiffany M. Card.
No auditions, no rehearsals!
Interested actors can sign up to read by contacting the Cold Readings committee via our Contact form. Plays and cast are chosen based on amount of actors available. A PDF will be emailed to those participating in the reading. Actors are asked to either print the play or read from their electronic device. Bagels and coffee are provided.
This is an opportunity to practice cold reading skills, be exposed to newer works, as a reader or audience, and a way for Play Selection Committee or directors to hear something they might want to consider for the next year.
Everyone and anyone is invited to participate. The series is free.
