What Membership brings to you:
Workshops / Monthly Meetings: Monthly meeting and workshop nights are held on the first Monday of every month at 7:30 PM. Members and the public are welcome to hear the business news of the playhouse during the first hour, then enjoy refreshments, take a chance to win prize money in our 50-50 drawing, and then experience a 45-minute workshop. Workshops may be an opportunity for a new director or playwright to present their latest project, or members to try their hand at a performance or technical demonstration, or a theater professional to give a lecture. Any topic related to the theater can be presented. See the Committees list for the current chairperson.
- Voting privileges: Members get to decide on many issues at Elmwood Playhouse. Votes are taken at the monthly meetings on election of officers, whether to produce special events, and general workings of the theater.
- “The Elmwood Player” - our monthly newsletter:
Early notice of auditions, plus news of the Playhouse mailed to you every month. We are always looking for news items, reviews, or anything you’d like to contribute!
- Subscription discounts:
Substantial savings on our six-show subscription package.
- Opportunities: An environment in which to practice your creative skills, or learn new ones. Other than acting and directing, there are a wide variety of behind-the-scenes areas that members are encouraged to work in: becoming a producer, set design & construction, lighting and sound, costumes, make-up, props, or the business area: publicity, fund-raising, play selection, membership or serving on the Board of Directors. Members may work in several of these capacities, and many have gone on to make a professional theater career based on their involvement with Elmwood.
- New Friends & Social Events: We believe in celebrating our achievements! We host champagne receptions on Opening Nights, Closing Night parties, Dinner Dances and Cast Parties, to name a few! The “Elmwood Experience” has Commitment, Enthusiasm, Hard Work, Good Friends, (Good Food!), Great Theater, and the enormous satisfaction that results from seeing your work come alive on the stage.

What Elmwood asks of you as a Member:
- Dues for Membership: The annual fee is $25.00, $15.00 for students. The membership year begins each July 1.
- Work on a Show: Every six weeks or so, we begin production on a new play or musical, plus we present special events during our season. Here are some of the areas of production where you can help, and even learn a new skill:
Set design, construction, dressing and painting
Lighting design or operator
Costume design or gathering
Props gathering or building
Sound design or operator
Stage crew
Producer
Assistant to the Director
Musical director or instrumentalist
Choreographer
Publicity
- If you can devote a little time or a lot, every bit helps our shows remain the best productions in Rockland County. Contact the producer of each show to find out how to help
- Serve on a Committee: Though not a requirement, we urge our members to take an active role in the workings of the Playhouse. It takes a great amount of behind-the-scenes planning, promoting and funding to put on our professional-quality shows.
Hospitality: Every member is required to provide Hospitality for one performance of one show per year. You can pick a show and performance date, or you will be assigned one. Hospitality consists of: taking tickets at the door and working with the Box Office Manager in seating patrons, making coffee and selling refreshments at intermission, then cleaning up the theater after the performance. If the show is not sold out, you can see it for free. This is an opportunity to interact with our audiences as a representative of the Playhouse. You will be contacted by the Hospitality chairperson, or see the Committees list.
